The Salvation Army’s summer camp in Quebec is located on the shores of magnificent Lac de l’Achigan, in Saint-Hippolyte, in the Laurentians. The camp, which The Salvation Armyowns and operates, has been serving the population of Quebec since 1933. The camp has cabins, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room and a nurse’s station. It features a beautiful sandy beach, a number of supervised aquatic activities, including swimming, canoeing and paddleboating, a trampoline and a playground with slides and balance beams. A basketball hoop, a beach volleyball court and a softball diamond are also on the site, as well as an arts and crafts workshop, a chapel, a campsite, a two-storey fort and an auditorium. Several theme weeks are offered at the camp: Adventure camps, Moms and Tots camp, Sunday school camp. The Salvation Army also offers camps for women, men, and families. The camps allow people from underprivileged neighbourhoods to participate in activities and enjoy the great outdoors. They also provide an opportunity to make new friends, far removed from an often difficult home life.
